Re-reading some of the posts in this thread, druidae1492 mentioned that he found the hull number etched on the bow of his 1965 DS I under the rub rail. That is where I will be looking.

I just picked up a DS1. My data plate is still intact. The hull # is 21569 and the class # is 3391. I don't see any numbers etched into the hull anywhere. I know it's pre HIN years, but I'm not sure of the year of manufacture. There are no numbers on the sail that came with the boat. The registration says it's a '69.

Pete, If you haven't already you can leave your year, sail/class number, boat name etc. in the Unofficial DaySailer List page in the History section.

When the time comes I'll put what ever fucking number I want on my sail. You folks can not agree on shit. So don't try telling me how it is. You say 1786 is too high as well. How the fuck are you?

I'm not sure anyone is telling you anything about what you do on your boat. Many people sail with second hand sails and do not bother to change the sail number on them - and nobody cares. The only time a sail number matters to other people is when boats join a race. Even for many informal races, the organizers might not care as long as there are no two boats with the same number on the lake.

Many owners are curious what the correct original sail number is for an older boat, because it can be non-obvious given the circumstances and any contributions here were given in that spirit.

The DS1 boats are mostly pre HIN, and that period/era was sooo long ago. All we can do is make an educated guess in most circumstances. Remember your boat is considered an antique, which I personally am proud of outside of everything else. However, You were directed to the hull identification list to check if the number you are thinking is taken. Basically, if you think it is that number, and it is not already taken.... Well, it is yours ;)

I have a few other people Adding their two cents from other groups of friends. At the North American 505 Championship the other day I noticed two boats with the same number on their spinnaker. One was very New looking, one was older and less bright white. I'll put a number one the dail. The end.

Thank you. :)
