Rush Creek Dinghyfest and General DS Events in TX

I just got back from a travel weekend with the DS. Saturday and Sunday I was at the Spring Dinghyfest at Rush Creek Yacht Club in Dallas on Ray Hubbard. Was a really nice venue. 2 nights of camping, good food, and nice facilities for what a decent campsite at a local lake would cost. And, of course, racing and people who love sailing. I met several folks from the Texas Centerboard Circuit. Their website is here http://www.texascenterboard.org/. They have a schedule etc. and DS boats are welcome. Still not real clear on how you "join" it, but not sure you have to join to just show up and race.

The next event is in Seabrook at the Seabrook Sailing Club on June 24th and 25th. Would love to meet up with any other DS owners - or well, anyone else - the Centerboard Circuit seems to have just about every type of boat, ICs, a Johnson 18, a Catalina Capri 16. It is a lot of fun. Team "puppies eating Cheetos" has successfully completed 1 race. The others were "too hot", "too little wind", or "we got lost and are hungry". So, well, after Wurstfest where I could not even figure out where the starting line this is PROGRESS!

The DS, btw, appears to be just about perfect for me with my 8 and 5 year old to go around on in the regatta setting. It has all the "stuff" but when they get tired/bored/hungry/etc... it has a cuddy and enough space to do "other stuff". At one point the wind was non-existant so we just used the trolling motor to go around and "visit" other boats. My daughter slept for a while and the spinnaker sheets on the DS make perfect drag lines for small carbon units who are whining because they are hot.

If you get a chance to go to a regatta at Rush Creek I would go, it's really nice and the people there are really nice as well.

If you are interested in traveling to other races, on Canyon Lake we have the "Jamaican-Me-Crazy" Regatta on Saturday May 27th. http://www.hcyc-tx.com/content.aspx?pag ... _id=645470 It is put on by Hill Country Yacht Club (HCYC) on Canyon Lake at Canyon Lake Marina. We now have Fleet 135 at HCYC, so we usually have a DS class to race. I'm not registered yet, but I will be registering.

The Seabrook event sounds interesting, but I will just have completed the Texas 200 the week before and probably will be recovering from a week of sailing. I will pass the information on to Fleet 135.

It would be good to see you again. Calvin, the in the other DS that sailed the year you sailed the Wurstfest Regatta will probably be there as well. Calvin has been doing very well racing his boat lately.
