I do three things.
(1) I use normal attachments. The user sees a preview, that may be clipped, with scroll bars. If a user clicks on it, they are shown the full size image.
(2) I use gallery pictures. They are represented by small thumbnails. If a user clicks on one, they are shown the full size image, as posted in the gallery. (There's a size limit to gallery pictures, so you need to use image editing software to prepare - check the earlier posts in this thread for more details).
(3) I experimented and found the largest image that I could attach without scroll bars. I sometimes use attachments that are sized to that the full image is visible. This works best for images with little detail, such as diagrams. (See my thread on "
