center boom vs. end boom sheeting

I've decided to change from center boom sheeting and go with end boom sheeting for next year. However, I noticed that at 2009 nationals the top 3 finishers used center boom sheeting. Also the juniors 1st place finisher used center boom sheeting. Because many of the former champions have used end boom sheeting, I guess there's no clear advantage either way for racing. I just thought it was interesting.

Probably no real significant advantage with one over the other as long as you are using a boom vang with a decent purchase. Without a boom vang I would prefer mid boom sheeting over end boom sheeting as it offers more control over sail shape. The great equalizer is the boom vang. Brad

There is an advantage to mid boom sheeting if you sail solo and need to sit forward to have easier access to your jib sheets. My previous boat used a boom vang with end boom sheeting. I would coil the extra main sheet line and place it over the tiller which helped to keep the area neat but I did have problems with access to this type of setup when I needed to be forward to adjust the jib. KC,

Were the mid-boom rig winners using a traveler car or just mid boom from a fixed mount on the centerboard trunk?

Hey Guido,

I can't tell for sure from the pictures if 2834 has a traveler but it's rigged as 4:1. On 2015 and 2028 I did spot travelers. 2015 took 2nd place and also won in juniors and is rigged 3:1. None of them is rigged stock and they all seem to be using nice big blocks. A couple of them are even using stock rudders, it appears.
