Spindrift O'Day Day Sailer 1

Postby Guest » Mon Jul 08, 2002 6:42 pm

Dear anyone who can help me,
I am a new sailor and have the opportunity to buy a used Spindrift O'Day Day Sailor 1. It looks in good shape and I was wondering what were the years they were built by Spindrift. Also, I was wondering about flotation and if I needed to get some extra or if it was already built in.
Thanks, Allen

I believe that Spindrifts generally were made from about 1980 to the late 80's. Perhaps someone else can give exact years.

It is also my understanding that they have positive flotation built in, so that even when swamped they won't sink. They aren't self-righting, but then no DS is unless it has water tight doors on the cuddy.

My own DS was a 1983 Spindrift.

Spindrft started producing DS1 in mid 1981 and stopped in 1985 the highst sail number I have heard of for Spindrift is 11926 and the lowest 11537 although I assume the started with 11500.
