We are the new owners of an old (~1965) Daysailer 1. There is a drain hole just aft of the centerboard trunk. It looks like it might take a 3/8-inch or so plug. I'm wondering if I should be looking for a bronze plug? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

My 68 ds1 had a steel plug of unknown size that i wasnt able to remove so i removed the entire block with threads out the hull.lil info....the block in the floor is bronze encased in fiberglass.
So i would agree to go back with a bronze plug coated with a good marine greese or suitable anti seize.
Steel wouldnt be a bad option if the plug was removed and installed often.

I found that very plug at a plumbing store - very inexpensive, used to close off small diameter pipes. (after a long troll through marine supply shops).

Thanks everyone. Problem solved. Was able to find a 1/4-inch bronze drain plug at the Forepeak in Marblehead. Great boat shop!
