DS1 cb

Postby mcqmga » Thu Jun 10, 2021 4:55 pm

I recently replaced cb handle gasket. Is there a procedure involved with replacing handle? Seems my cb will not desend completely -only partially. My handle hits the wooden floorboards and " bumps" inside the housing. I'm thinking that maybe cb should be in down position when handle inserted?

You can replace the handle in either position. Just make sure that the handle points "up" if the CB is up (and "down" or parallel) when CB is down).

The "bumping" I'm not sure about. Some DS1 have a place on the opposite side that the end of the CB pin is supposed to insert (should be rounded portion of the pin). Could be you missed that one when inserting perhaps?

That might explain " bumping" sound. A prior thread cited pin extension on handle was meant to eliminate cb slopping around in cb well when inserted into port side pivot hole.

The walls of the CB trunk are a bit flexible, it's possible you "spread" the CB if your pin sits outside the hole, but the handle is flush.

A previous owner on my boat changed the setup so that there's a positive bolt on the other side.

Another possibility is that some owner before you placed shims in the square CB hole and that your pulling the pin made those shims shift position. To investigate that would require full removal of the board.

My c/b handle just has the square peg and in choppy or sloppy waters it does bang in the c/b trunk. If it bothers you? You can shim up the c/b.

How many and what size washers required for centerboard mounting on DS1.? What type material should washers be made of? Fiber? Metal?

I'd suggest you go order them from DR Marine, they have the proper size etc.. They also specialize in carrying DS specific parts, so let's support them.
