Upgrading a DS

Postby GreenLake » Mon Jun 14, 2010 2:03 am

I'll pose this question as a mystery.

What DS upgrade requires these materials?

1 sheet of R-10 foam insulation, 1 tube of pipe insulation (ID 2", R 2.9), 20" x .5" wood dowels and 2' of 1/4" bungee cord, plus paint.

Solution at the bottom of the page - look for the thumbnails to click on.

First hint:

Postby GreenLake » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:36 pm

OK. Nearly 50 views and no takers.

I'll give another hint:

The second phase of the project required 12 pieces of cardboard 4.5" square and 24 short pieces of wire. More paint.

Bonus question: what kind of power am I increasing with this upgrade?

You're either adding wings or a massive Alexander Calder mobile. I can't decide.

Or maybe a floating fireworks barge.

OK, we've nearly doubled the number of views here, and we have three suggestions.

No moving parts, so the mobile is out, although that would have been a good one. :D

I hope my additions won't act like wings  , but they are (hint) intended to increase my firepower.

Final round

Postby GreenLake » Tue Jun 15, 2010 3:52 pm

No wing sails, alas. On the contrary, I'm hoping I won't increase my windage above acceptable levels.

Water balloon launcher would certainly fit the spirit of this upgrade, but for now there are no moving parts.

I guess, you could describe it as aiming at visual, rather than actual impact...

I hope to be able to deploy this tonight, if so, I'll get a photo or two. Until then, this is open for the last round of final guesses.

A final hint: colors for the paint: black, white, brown, brass. Could have used some red on one side of the 12 cardboard squares, but stuck to black....

to ward off pirates, especially those who will attempt to steal your advantage at the start line.

Not sure, but you could be creating a mess.

The idea might strike some as

830

but we opted for the full complement of 12 guns. :D

831

to ward off competing pirate ships.

...and Shrieking Eels. Are there rocks ahead?

Very nice! My boat came with a Jolly Roger and eye-patch, but no cannons. :( I am jealous.
