Floatation again

Postby Baysailer » Wed Apr 20, 2011 9:45 am

Much has been written already on daysailer floatation this is my take on my boat. I cut out the ports for the tanks in both my O’days and pulled the foam from the Rhodes. The bottom layer was saturated and discolored and weighted out at about 100-120 pounds. I should note that the plugs have been missing for as long as I remember. I plan to replace the bottom layers and reuse the foam that was light and white.

My daysailer was a different story, where the Rhodes was filled with 2x4 foam boards the daysailer is filled with one single foam block. The tanks were dry though and the core sample I pulled out from the bottom was still white. Since I don’t see a problem my plans are to seal it with access ports and move on. I do plan to put in some foam behind the seatbacks, under the coamings. I also may use airbags in the bow and stern areas. While not primary floatation I also plan to find a means to secure the floorboards so they stay put in a capsize.
