Centerboard Trunk

I'm replacing my existing centerboard with a slightly thinnger one. While the existing board is shimmed to prevent sideways play, I could still stand to narrow the opening of the centerboard slot itself.

Class rules allow the buildup of the slot, as long as the sides remain parallel, and the build up does not go greater than 4" up the trunk from the opening.

Has anyone had success narrowing the trunk opening and what techniques/materials did they use?

Thanks in advance.
