LOOSE STYROFOAM INSIDE MAST (problem #1)

Each time I put in or take out the mast on my 1961 DS-1 (I think it's a Proctor mast), I am rewarded with a large puddle of white styrofoam pellets. It seems that the flotation material inside the mast is coming out -- and at an accelerating rate. I have considered spraying in some of the spray-can variety polyurethane foam insulation as a last resort, but am hoping that there may be a less draconian solution out there. Any thoughts?
