CB Gasket replacement

Is it possible the centerboard handle didn’t have a gasket? I’ve pulled the handle and either the gasket is hardcore epoxied and glass in or there wasn’t one there. I’m a first timer with a very new to me DS and was told by previous owner the gasket needed to be replaced to fix the leak coming in from the handle.

I am also new to the daysailer, My DS1 has a gasket. and my belief is all that have the handle do. DR marine has them reasonably, and I have found that Rudy is great to work with, and has a wealth of information. http://www.drmarine.com/default.asp . and welcome.

Over time, gaskets can disintegrate . . . I have one on the reverse side as well, and this it what it looked like:

Thank you for your responses. To answer my own question, yes, it is possible for the handle to operate the CB without the gasket. Having no knowledge on how the assembly was supposed to look like, I figured the gasket was somehow flush with the trunk or hidden from view. Once disassembled I realized where it should have been. Much drier ride today.

Thanks again for your input.

Depends on where the pivot pin is relative to the waterline. That may be different for some boats (e.g. floorboards or not, etc).

Methinks it was an upgrade. Something that some DS1 owners did.
