O'Day Ospray Boom Sheet Placement

I'm a new member who just purchased a nice 1968 O'Day Ospray. I had a 22 ft boat before with mid boom sheeting. The Ospray has a traveler with the sheet coming back mid boom. Is there any advantage to eliminating the end boom sheet and going to a 4:1 mid boom only sheet placement? Thanks. Jim

Ahoy Jim, and congratulations on your new boat. I prefer end-of-boom sheeting, because it can provide more precise control of the mainsail and faster easing and trimming. On my Day Sailer I can use a 2:1 or 1:1 mainsheet arrangement. By the way, if you have a powerful vang you may want to consider eliminating the adjustable traveler. Mike Gillum (North American Champion), on this forum, has a number of posts extolling the virtues of this arrangement.
