double bow eyes

Postby Chincoteague » Thu Feb 17, 2022 9:01 pm

Is it common to add a second bow eye? I'm not fond of the appearance but I can get used to it if it is useful. But I don't see how it will be that useful.
It does appear that it was done pretty well with a backing plate in some bedding on the inside of the bow. (pay no attention to those mud daubers).
Any thoughts welcome.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of Previous Owners? Not even the Shadow can tell you why anyone would put in a second bow eye, but methinks that someone didn't trust the bronze? brass? top eye and retrofitted the beefier steel one. Same someone didn't want to remove the old one and deal with the hole-plugging job in a tight space (inside of the bows, working with nasty polyester resin in Pre-Gougeon Brothers days), so they just left it. Anyway, that's my theory. Or else, some PO was a really big fan of Two-Tusked Narwhals, but aren't we all?

Don't sell yourself short :)

However, perhaps a third bow eye would complete that boat.
