The cable used to raise the main jumps the shiv. The shiv is plastic and newly replaced because it was so mangled from trying to force the cable by it anyway. Someone said they replaced the cable with line because they had the same problem. The thinking being that the cable has too much spring in it, line drapes and tends to stay in the shiv.
Suggestions?

I guess my feeling is that cable is overkill anyway. Go with low stretch halyard and you should get the tension you need and avoid the sheave problems. Problem is that cable doesn't like short radius bends and maintains its shape thus jumping off the sheave.

Try the spectra ropes. They´re as strong as ss cable, lighter, and can take bends the way you need.
Racing boats should change most cables for spectra.
