Postby bamiral » Sun Mar 18, 2007 8:25 pm

Roger,

I'd like to buy a set, as well. I've also sent you email directly in hopes I can get something soon (my boat is in immediate need of repair to the CB downhaul and sailing season has started out here!).

Thanks,

Topping lift cord?

Postby Donal » Sun Apr 08, 2007 2:36 am

Hi Roger,
I am wanting to add a topping lift to my boat, and wondered where I can find the "parachute shroud cord" that you recommend. Is the tube cleat sold somewhere, or will I have to make my own?
Getting ready for the season, and still making improvements.

topping lift cord

Postby Roger » Sun Apr 08, 2007 11:30 am

Parachute shroud cord is nylon cord that encapsulates a number of twisted strands of nylon string. It is about 1/8" diameter. You will likely find it in the camping section of any outdoor store, also sold as camping cord. Breaking strength is about 700 pounds so anything similar should work. You might also find it in a hunting store, but of course it will be either blaze orange or camo color there!

You should be able to find a tube cleat in a marine store. Here is a link to what it should look like, but I ended making my own from a 3/8 piece of copper tubing.

In the following link it was made from PVC.

Since having built mine a few years ago, I would recommend that instead of the adjuster being at the back of the boom, that it attach at the boom end with a shackel, run to the masthead, around a small cheek block then down to the base of the mast and cleated on a small horn cleat. This gives you a bit greater range when adjusting it, and allows the adjustment to be made forward in the middle of the cockpit, which is safer than reaching out to the back of the boom and possible outboard of the boat. It does require more line however.

DS II book

Postby Roger » Wed Apr 25, 2007 6:04 pm

I am bumping this message up to the forefront as I am starting to get a number of e-mails again to determine if the book and CD are still available.

In short, yes they are, and I will continue to make them available as long as there is a demand.

So, if you do your own maintenance, repair, or restoration work on your O’day Daysailer II then you’ll want this book entitled, Understanding, Maintaining and Repairing your Daysailer II. It covers some of the most common fixes and upgrades to make sailing the DS II more comfortable, convenient and safe within the class rules. Included is the builder chart to determine the year and manufacturer of most daysailers, the Daysailer Association’s specifications and measurements document, and a copy of the original manual.

Understanding, Maintaining and Repairing your Daysailer II is available in book or CD form for $26 ( which includes shipping and handling anywhere in the continental United States and Canada. Contact the author at roger.conrad@mts.net for ordering and delivery instructions. If you order both the book and the CD at the same time, the cost is $38 total. I take paypal and cheques.

Roger's DSII Book

Postby lostsailer802 » Mon Apr 30, 2007 4:23 pm

Hey all,

I recently purchased a 1976 DS II which needs a bit of work. I would very much like a copy of the book if still available. I tried to e-mail Roger last week, but haven't heard back yet.

Should I just send Roger the $$ through PayPal, or should I wait to hear from him first?

I know.... I'm impatient, but the warmer weather has me anxious to get her in the lake.

Thanks.......

Larry

Wait to hear from me first Larry.

Larry,

I tried to send you the ordering instructions on a number of occasions, but your spam blocker kept bouncing my message back. Try taking the filter off and I can try again. At any rate, you can send it by paypal at my roger.conrad@mts.net e-mail address. Don't forget to attach a mailing address for the book and CD. Cost is $36 for both including postage.

I'll also private mail you with my snail mail address should you wish to send a cheque the old fashioned way.

Hey Roger,

Sorry about my unfriendly e-mail program bouncing you back. I wonder what other friendly e-mails it has turned away. It's really more like a spam locker than a blocker. It lets all the viagra, ink cartridge and applebee's coupons through without a problem.

Anyway, I just sent you a $36.00 payment through paypal for the book & CD. Looking forward to it.

Thanks,

Larry

Hello Roger,

I sent you an order, I hope, via Paypal last week sometime. Not sure I did it all correctly? Just ready to get my newly aquired DS II lake ready.
The pictures on your site have been helpful already.

Thanks

bump books and CD still available for Christmas

Postby Roger » Sun Dec 16, 2007 1:05 pm

Just a reminder that I still have books and CD's on 'Understanding maintainng and restoring the DS II'.

I take paypal and cheques, and delivery is 8 days, so there is still time to get that book or CD for your stocking in time for the holiday.
