New to Daysailing

Postby awrobatzek » Fri Apr 13, 2018 7:08 pm

Hello!
I have been wanting to start sailing for years and finally made the plunge into buying a boat. I found a 1976 Daysailer II that seemed to be in decent shape, but needed some sprucing up. I have since found a few more major projects to get this thing ready then I anticipated, but so far this website has been a fantastic resource.

The day after purchase I noticed some hull deflection caused by the poorly designed trailer soooo the boat is on tires and the trailer gets a full rework

The hull feels pretty stiff, and the deflection isn't popping back out on its own (guess that's a good thing, meaning fiberglass is still strong?). Aside from having to replace the lines and fair the hull at some point most of the issues seem cosmetic. I am glad this website is here because otherwise I wouldn't have any idea where or how to start.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, is anyone else in Montana?

She looks pretty good for her age! Get some decent bunks on that trailer and you'll be in bidness!

You are very lucky to have that removable motor mount part! My '79 DS2 had the base part bolted to the transom, but I only ever found one guy who had the bracket part, and he wasn't selling. I finally made this for my Honda 2 4-stroke:
