Is this jib cleat set up correctly?

As it is, to set the sheet into the cleat I have to pull it forwards, so I wouldn't be able to do it if I were singlehanding and not sitting right up by the cleats.

As far as I know, it is set up correctly. That's how mine were before I got new ones. Mounting it backwards in the track doesn't work at all--I've tried it.

The only advantage I can see to this design is that you can uncleat it in a hurry.

Lol I tried flipping mine around too, definitely did not work. I noticed I have angled flat spots on the CB housing in the center, I've seen others install cleats there for the gib. I think I'll go that route.

Thanks for the clarification!

Even singlehanding you should sit forward as much as you can. Do you have a tiller extension?

I do have an extension. Tomorrow is the big day, our first cruise. So I will be able to see how far forward I can get.

In light winds, no need to cleat the jib. Have fun.

That's just what mine looks like and is a priority to change this year if possible ... a new cleat to put on the existing slider without drilling any new holes. Current system is SO awkward. Rudy Nickerkson at D&R Marine told me last fall that he is working to get a new product that will be more satisfactory no matter if you are sailing alone or with crew. Spoke to him again yesterday. Still in progress.
