Hull Number deciphering

Postby Acornrunner » Sun Oct 04, 2020 6:54 pm

I have hull number XDY 1042 M 800 - 0

I believe that is an O'Day number 1042 Made in 1980.

Questions, I thought they had made a lot more by then

Would my sail number be 1042, is there a registry?

Sail number 1042 would be in the very early '60s. Did you leave out a digit?

No the HIN is remarkably clear and legible Yeah That's what I thought, oops!

XDY 10421 M80C-D

So I used a bright flashlight to give me shadows and took a very much closer look, added a digit, and changed two Zeros to a "C" & "D".

From this closer look, I'm guessing my sail number would be 10421

Yes.

You can join the DaySailer Association (the ones paying for this website) by going to the membership site: https://daysailer.org

They will associate your name with that sailnumber as part of your membership.

You can also look for the thread "The official, un-official DaySailer Number List" and leave your hull number there, if you'd like it to be known.

Yes, that makes more sense. If I remember how HIN's work, you have sail number 10241, built from March into April of 1980. XDY is the USCG code for "O'DAY", although by 1980 manufacturing was already farmed out to other companies.
