Leaking centerboard DS 3

Postby Guest » Mon Jul 29, 2002 8:00 pm

I just purchased a 1991 Oday Daysailer 3, put it in the water and it is taking on water through the hole in which the centerboard cable runs. The water rushes *steady stream) in the "cabin" and then out the drain holes into the cockpit.

Can any one tell me if this type of leaking is a common problem and how major an issue it is to fix. would appreciate any solutions.

My DS III has only leaked in this way when sailing downwind at top speed with a strong following wind and strong following waves. The water harmlessly drained out of the cuddy through two small weep holes and back into the cockpit. This only occured a couple of times in five years, from the water pressure in the centerboard trunk pushing the water above the waterline. However, if this happens to you on other points of sail or in docile conditions have it checked out...something more serious may be occuring, perhaps a crack that opens up under strain or (?). Good luck.
