The results of the Wurstfest Regatta are posted here:
http://www.regattanetwork.com/clubmgmt/ ... ta_id=9004There were four Day Sailers, two DS1s and two DS2s. Since we had more than three boats, the Day Sailers got to sail as their own fleet. The DS1s took 1st and 2nd place. My DS2 took 3rd place and the other DS2 took 4th place. The boat that took 4th place, this was the first time he had ever raced. They said they enjoyed it and learned a lot from the experience. Neither DS2 had a spinnaker, whereas both DS1s did. The wind was about 10 knots on Saturday with some gusts. Sunday the wind was closer to 20 knots.
Late on Wednesday afternoon before the race, my crew dropped out. I was able to find crew Saturday morning. He was good at helm and with my weight forward we were able to get good boat trim and improved boat performance over last year. The barber haulers I installed in 2013 helped our pointing a lot. Although we took 3rd place in the 5 races we sailed Saturday, on the first race, my boat rounded the first mark ahead of both DS1s. The DS1s then pulled out their spinnakers and left us behind.
There were going to be two races on Sunday and I was unable to find crew and could not participate. The winds were around 20 knots on Sunday. Both DS1s and the other DS2 headed out to the coarse. Before the first race, one of the DS1s came back in, I don't know the reason, I heard there might have been some minor damage. A few other boats from the other classes came in early as well due to damage from the wind. Canyon Lake can have some odd wind patterns due to the high hills around the lake. Turned out that due to the wind, they only ran one race on Sunday for the Day Sailers.
While de-rigging, the crew of the DS1 that won 1st place noticed a large crack in their mast at deck level just after they got their mast down. The crack ran from the sail slot forward. Had they been out longer in the high winds they might have lost their mast.
