Looking for Crew - 2015 Texas 200

Postby jeadstx » Fri Jan 16, 2015 1:22 pm

It's that time of the year again where I begin to look for someone to sail with on the Texas 200 and enjoy the adventure. The crew I had last year are preparing their own boat for this year's sail and most sailors near me that are interested are sailing their own boats as well.

The 2015 event will be sailing from Port Isabel, Texas to Magnolia Beach, Texas on Matagorda Bay, a distance of about 220 miles. We sailed this length in 2013 in 5 days sailing (4 nights camping) with 3 days over 50 miles each. This year we will be taking 6 days sailing (5 nights camping) to prevent those 50 mile plus days. There will be some different camp sites than 2013 which have not been determined yet.

The dates for the event are from Monday June 8th to Saturday the 13th (sailing days). I will be headed down to Port Isabel (from Dripping Springs, Tx; near Austin) on Friday June 5th (White Sands Motel & Marina is the start point, reservation already made). Return to the Austin area will be on Sunday the 14th.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

The camps have now been determined. From the start at Port Isabel, 1st camp is at the Port Mansfield Jetties, 2nd camp at a site in the land cut, 3rd camp is at the Padre Island Yacht Club (which means AC and hot showers available), 4th camp is at Paul's Mott (where a memorial to two Tx200 sailors that have passed away this year will be held), and 5th (final) camp is at Army Hole. Finish on the last day is Magnolia Beach where the end of event shrimp boil will be.

The Google Earth camps can be found at http://www.texas200.com/Route.html

Even tho I'm looking for crew for my own boat for this year's Tx200, if anyone is wanting to do this event in there own boat, I would be happy to share information on helping anyone to prepare for the event.
