Daysailer Membership Drive for 2016

Postby GreenLake » Sun Nov 08, 2015 8:58 pm

For all of you who have recently joined the site, or participated in or benefited from the discussions here over the year.

If you are not yet members of of the Daysailer Association, now is the time to join for 2016 (or renew if you are already a member).

The DSA supports the hosting of this forum, so, while being a member is not a requirement for enjoying this forum, you are invited, nay encouraged, to do your bit and join the DSA. In response to many requests made by forum contributors, both membership application and renewal can now be managed online (although for fans of paperwork, there's a PDF form that can be printed out as well).

Those of you with e-mail on file will have gotten a reminder already.

The new online renewal process works, just tried it, but found some quirks. It insisted on a spouse email -- well, mine doesn't deal with boats, so I entered "user@example.com". The other quirk is that you need to pick a "region". For those of you not members of a fleet, which seem to be most of us here on the forum, the answer is hidden under "Fleets", but you pick "independent".

If you are a member and have a login into the main website, but can't see the renewal, contact the admin (look under "Fleets / Leadership").

If you renewed or joined in response to this appeal, please post a reply to this thread.

I was able to renew online earlier this afternoon. It *is* a bit of a convoluted process, and there were a couple of hiccups along the way, but it does work ...

I just sent in my membership. Used the form downloaded from the DSA website. I found this forum on the advice of the previous owner of my new to me DSII. I am a complete novice and have found the forum to be fantastic! Lots of good information and lots of very knowledgeable members who are willing to share their experience and advice. I am really looking forward to my first sail, but being in NW Ohio, that will probably be in the spring. I have already discovered some mods I might consider over the winter. The DS may be addictive! I'm trying to renew my membership on-line. Keeps telling me I'm already a member and won't give me an option to renew for 2016. Anything I'm missing when I log on to the "join" section?

I was afraid of that. The same thing happened to me and the admin said she had fixed it. But it may not be fixed for everybody, just for those who contacted her. Let me pass this on to her for you and I'll ask her whether she has a way to check everybody, but at least she could fix the setup for you.

I heard back from her, and it appears there were some growing pains. Apparently she used the system to send an e-mail message which not all those with accounts on the main site at (https://daysailer.org) have received. So, I'll repeat the message here.

DSA Administrator wrote:As a DSA member you may have received a renewal email even after you recently paid either online or by check. This was an error on my part. When I set up member accounts I set the renewal date of January 1. I did not know then that dues were typically solicited in the fall. I have updated a handful of member accounts to a November 1 renewal date, but still need to go into the system and update about 250 accounts. I will take care of this this week but not today. In the meantime if you have paid simply disregard the notification.

Once the renewal dates are set (mine for example, appears to have had an empty renewal date) you should be able to renew. If the renewal doesn't work, please come back here or contact the admin directly. Either way, we'll take care of you.

The way it is supposed to work:

1) go to https://daysailer.org
2) on that page, log in
3) click "join Us"
4) you will be directed to "edit your profile"
5) in the middle of the page there will be a big gray button allowing you to renew online

Once the process is working, you can renew multiple times, so check the ending date on the button. It should say something like: January 01, 2017 or some suitable date a year in the future.

I was sent an e-mail of a possible work around. Will try it and see what happens.
