Hull #/Class # Backwards?

Postby acarson » Fri Jul 13, 2012 8:15 am

I recently bought a DS 1 with a sail numbered 269. I have known the boat for 30 years and has alwaysbeen by that sail number.

But I know sail numbers are fungible...

When I checked the plate is says Hull #269; Class #2617. Made by Mascot plastics got the G O'Day Copany in Fall River.

It is an OLD one - wooden seats, closed transom.

My prior boat was Class Number 1997 and it was the fiberglass seat, open transom O'Day DS I. Knowing my old boat and several of its generation as well as several other 3 digit DS I's, I am sure this is a 3 digit boat.

But all the posts on hull # vs class # indicate that the class number should NOT be larger than hull number (hulls are all O'Day hulls; Class is DS only.

Any thoughts? Is this like the rare stamp with the upside down plane...worth more :)

I would go by design characteristics.

Wooden seats and enclosed transom really date your boat - go ahead and enter it into the online spreadsheet for DS1 design modifications.
