stern traveler height

Postby adam aunins » Sun Sep 28, 2008 10:45 pm

I have the rope triangle stern traveler setup on my boat and am wondering what difference ,if any, the triangle height has on anything?

I know the extremes like to high and gets into the boom when trying to sheet in or very low and fowling the tiller.

But does it effect sail shape or any boat handling characteristics, and if so how?

I dropped the stern triangle. It did not do much as a traveler, and there was very little purchase power on the mainsheet. THe triangle also foeld the tiller and engine.
I switched to midboom sheeting by replacing the single block on the boom with a double, and replacing the single block on the centerboard trunk with a fiddle block with becket. Much better. I plan to experiment with a triple on the boom and a triple with a becket on the centerboad trucnk
