The picture shown earlier in this post of my cuddy cabin roof shows two deck blocks. These were part of my reefing system. My reefing system has since been updated. Attached is a picture of the cuddy cabin top of my DS II with labels showing hardware, although this was updated and modified after the first race I sailed with a spinnaker in October to get ready for the Wurstfest Regatta in November. The modifications were an improvement.
In the picture I have a double deck block for handling the pole topping lift and the pole down haul lines. The block was causing problems and not as flexible as I wanted, it was replaced with a fair lead, one for each line. Originally I cleated the spinnaker halyard to the horn cleat, but added a dedicated cam cleat with fair lead forward of the horn cleat. Much easier to use for me.
I am currently setting up my DS I with a setup similar to the DS II. The one thing I'm changing is the clam cleats for the pole topping lift and downhaul lines. The ones used on the DS II have the built in fairlead. We found that when releasing the lines the fairleads tend to cause the line to slip back into the clam cleat. On the DS I, clam cleats will also be used with a separate fair lead to provide more spacing to allow better line release. This modification will be done to the DS II as well.
