Vangard 15 bilge tube replacement

Postby Danny » Mon Jul 23, 2018 9:33 am

I need to replace the bilge tube on a Vangard 15. The access is through a 6-8 inch round hatch, can only get one arm in but need both in order to attach hose clamps.

Any suggestions?

@Danny - this is a forum dedicated to a specific boat model, the O'Day DaySailer. However, your issue of making repairs through a small access hatch is a generic one for double-hulled sail boats, and we like to help out a fellow sailor if we can. Some of the DaySailer models are also double-hulled and someone here may have a helpful suggestion.

While I personally happen to also own a Vanguard 15, I've not attempted that particular repair. If there's no other way, my default approach would be to consider installing an additional inspection port. I have, however, no idea whether such a modification would be permitted under V15 class rules, in case you are racing your boat.
