Guy deck fitting

Postby prochase » Mon Mar 16, 2020 12:00 pm

Can anyone provide a source for this deck fitting? I plan on rigging the boat with a spinnaker

Thank you,

Eric

It's from Ron and Stan, West Marine sells it:

https://www.westmarine.com/buy/ronstan--spinnaker-brace-hook--2500122

A suggestion, look at Phill Root's "Rigging a Winning Daysailer" page on the our parent daysailer.org site. Instead of using a guy hook on deck, Phill simply puts a pulley sheave (actually, a becket roller, small sheave) on the outboard side of his chainplates. I think it's a more elegant solution - the guy stays put when the pole is forward and pops out when it's back, then auto-releases when you jibe. As Phill writes: No more trips to leeward to release a forgotten line.

Alternatively, there is this:

https://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Ceiling-Hangers-Straps-Rigging/dp/B07HVNMLKX/

Stainless, just put a backing plate under it, and use a nut and bolt to fasten.

Anyway, all the best with the rigging project!

This one here:
https://www.fisheriessupply.com/ronstan ... -hook-rf91

You may want an RF92 instead, without the through bolt. None of the catalogs list dimensions. Perhaps best to try to call before you order.

Tom was faster. The key thing about the Ronstan fitting is that it has the little neoprene toggle to prevent the guy from leaving the brace hook without a positive tug.

Not a race! :) And yes, I had a niggling memory that Ronstan builds this deck fitting without the long thru-bolt. RF-92 it is.

I saw one of these at Fisheries Supply in Seattle (great store!), but didn't handle it. So the neoprene toggle is just a "soft button" then? Doesn't really click the guy into place, it just helps hold it in position via friction?

Haven't seen any of these up close and personal yet.
