Hoping someone can help...

(If I'm asking in the wrong place, please let me know!) I just bought an old O'Day at a thrift shop, of all places. It's in great shape, though it has been through a few owners. In fact, that leads to question #1, since one of the owners says it's a 1963, and the other says it's a 1978! I have posted four pictures at
www.savelakemartin.com/sailboat.htm ; if someone can tell me more based on those, I would appreciate it! (And no, there is no ID number anywhere that I can find. It either never had one, or it was sanded away or otherwise wiped out during a past refurbishing.)
More importantly, picture #4 shows that there is some missing hardware near the mast. I'd love to know exactly what's missing; the sooner I replace it, the sooner I get the boat where it belongs-- on the water!

It's definitely a Daysailer so you have the right place. What they call a Daysailer 1. The year cold be a bit trickier to figure out but I think its a bit newer than 63. From the photos your hull has stiffening strips on the floor, I have a 63 and don't have them.
From the photos it looks like a stripped hull. Did you get the mast, boom or rudder with it. Give us an inventory of what you have (pictures are good) and the people here will help you figure out what you have and what you need.
Good thrift store find. I bought my Rhodes from a thrift store and named it Sally Ann a well know nickname for the salvation army stores.

The obvious thing is the horn cleats, coamings and footboards are missing. THe jib blocks appear to be missing too. I think alos the chelves in the cuddy are gone
Not to worry, anything you need is available from sailing supply companies. DR Marine also sell Oday Daysailer parts.
THere should be an Oday plate in the cuddy - send along the model and hull numbers

Wow! I apologize for my abysmal spelling in the last post!
I have been pondering the flag pole bracket at the edge of the cuddy. My guess is the PO used it to fit a boom crutch. Not a bad idea! I intend to rig a topping lift during the fall haul-out.

Kokko- you must be a thinking man, I was thinking the flag holder was part of a mast raising rig.
Baj- On my DS there is a plate with the hull and class numbers on the rear coaming but it looks like your coamings have been removed so you might be out of luck. Later O'Day mounted the plate to the front of the cuddy (below the storage doors). Who ever thought people would cut down or remove the coamings?
I also don't think its a 78 because they engraved the VIN number on the hull starting 71 or 72 timeframe, and I didn't see it in your pic. Do you have a sail with a number on it? It could help narrow it down. By the way the hull number, class number (sail #) and year makes little difference except for registering it. I'm sure if you wanted to race it they'd get you a number.

It is kind of hard to tell, but it looks like you don't have a well for the outboard motor. And instead had, at some point, some slots for a detachable outboard motor bracket. If this is the case, I would bet the boat was made somewhere around '63. There are only a few with this setup. (A friend of mine has one.) His sail number is 1128, and I think his is a '63. O'Day didn't go with this setup for long, and instead went with a well in the stern-deck to fit the outboard into. My DS is a 1965 and has that set-up.
I love the paint job, although I bet the seats get hot in the sun. Looks like a great find. What part of the country you are in? Perhaps there is a fleet close by who can help you on a face-to-face basis. It is always good to see examples of how things are set up in person. Pictures don't always do it.

I can't help myself and must ask.... what did this boat cost you? Did it come as shown, or are there sails, rudder, mast, boom, etc.?

Sorry for the slow reply! I DID get the sails, mast, rudder, boom and so on, and the price was $1,195. I'm not sure if that was a deal or not, but as long as I'm happy with the boat, I'll consider it a good deal.
It does appear that I'm missing some hardware, but all of the "big stuff" is there.
