Did I buy a DS-1 ??

Hello everybody, and thanks for letting me be a part of this group.

Not knowing much about the Daysailor line, I just started doing some research on a dingy I just purchases.

The title I receive with the boat says it is a 1986 model built by Percision Boat works. When I called Percision to get more information, they told me the boat was built under contract and that I needed to contact the Day Sailer Association for more detail. So here I am !

The hull has both the Percision logo and the Day Sailer I marking.
It looks very similar to many of the photo I have seen on this site.

If I do in fact have a DS-1, I'd like to get some technical specs.
I need to replace the fore stay, and would like to know what length it should be.

I will also be looking for a new set of sails, and like to know what size to look for.

Thanks in advance.
Bill H

Precision did build the DS I for a while. They built no other DS variant. Take a look at the transom and note the hull identification number. It will be able to tell you what the sail number for the boat is. Is probably a five digit number beginning with "11"

Good luck.

A DS1?

Here's a link to the hull numbers. As Bob says, Precision did build a DS1 in the mid-90's.

Welcome Aboard - Check out the “technical info’‘ on the home page. It has a ton of specs available. The sails are standard for the DS models. DSI And DS II sails can be interchanged. I bought a set of new sails a few years ago from DR Marine. They carry quite a bit of original equipment specific to the DS and are also a valuable source of DS info. Ask for Rudy. Brad

DS specific parts - http://www.drmarine.com/categories.asp?cat=64

Also another source for general sail boat parts and accessories with great prices and service is -

If you need to replace an existing forestay, any rigging shop could make you a replacement. For replacing a missing forestay your best bet might be D&R Marine (at the link posted earlier). Don't hesitate to call them up and discuss the particulars. They are very knowledgeable.

For sails, just go with any sailmaker that knows the DS and has the measurements on file. Rather than rattle off a list of sailmakers (everyone has their own favorites) I'll suggest instead that you look into the "sails" section of this forum, but also search for this topic. There are many discussions of the pros and cons of different sailmakers.

The best way, by far, to search this forum is with one of the big search engines like Google or Bing. For example searching for "site:daysailer.org/forum sails" on Google brings up several discussions of particular sailmakers among the first search results, while the same search on Bing pulls up some more general discussions on the first screen.

After you've had a quick look around, you'll be in a position to come back and ask more detailed questions.

Good luck, and welcome to the DS.
