Tiller Extension

I have a 1968 DSI. The tiller has a hole at the end for what I assume was a tiller extension but the extension was not sold with the boat. Am interested in making one. Does anyone know the proper dimensions and how it should be attached when in use.

Thanks,

My tiller extension is 19 inches collapsed, and 32 inches telescoped out. It has a universal joint, that is through bolted to the tiller at about five inches from the forward end. There is also a u-shaped clip for the extension to 'park' in when not in use. To telescope or collapse, a quarter twist is all that is required. I have a cork ball on the end of mine, but the finish wore off so I dipped it several times in the stuff that you dip tool handles in for protection.
The extension itself is 3/4 inch aluminum tube. They retail at most marine stores. Mine was made by Seaway.
