Winter storage

For us in the cold climates winter storage is part of sailing. I use the mast as a ridge for the cover. This year I put the tarp on late fall and forgot about it. Today I Noticed the heavy snow load bent the mast. Once cleared the mast returned to straight. My fault for not putting a center brace under the mast. Trailer tires flattened too but sure they can take air and be ok too.

How long was your unsupported span?

I used the trailer ing mast holders so full boat length. Normally I keep it cleared but not this year and we had a heavy snow load. I'll make some mid span supports as preventative measure.

Not that much snow here, usually, but I have a third support at the mast step. It's made from a bit of mast profile. At that location it's not an even partition of the span, but close enough to be very helpful. And easy to rig.
