North Sails Code Zero
Posted: Mon Aug 11, 2025 1:04 amI bought a Code Zero from North Sails this summer and though it's only been out once I thought I'd give a report on it. Price was $600, so not bad after getting a $936 quote for a Doyle UPS. It's the Helix Cruising G-Zero specc'd to the Daysailer by the Portland, OR North Sails loft (Kerry Poe). I decided I wanted it to be run inside the fortriangle (like a jib) and about 71 sq.ft., same as several UPS on here. But it's made of 1.5oz Dacron, instead of Nylon.
I wanted it to be sheeted to blocks tethered to the rear cleats, and it came out perfect, creating a visibly better slot than the jib with the mainsail, not backwinding it when close hauled.
I took the sail out for the first time on Thursday and it was a blast! It is a LOT of sail, but it was designed perfectly for what I wanted. It is definitely meant for light air, even 8-9 knots it was overpowered. The Daysailer, however, handled my hard testing like a champ, and it was never scary like it can be with a traditional spinnaker, with my and a friend on the rail it just spun up into the wind and depowered. I was able to get about 55-60 degrees off the wind, and it HAULED. It was amazing how fast we were moving in the light evening air.
Definitely recommended for anyone looking for better light wind sailing.
