My DSII has a main sheet that runs to a swivel block mounted on top of the CB trunk. There is no traveler set up. Is this standard with the DSII and is there any reason not to install a traveler system? It seems like a good idea to have one.

It depends on what you are looking for. The original set up works fine for just sailing around but the traveler gives you alot more control if you are of a more competitive nature. Whenever there is another sailboat on the water I immediately go into race mode (drives my wife crazy) so I changed over to a traveler on the stern. Phill has some great photos in his gallery. His is a DS I so yours wouldn't look exacatly the same. I put an eyestrap on either side of the transom and then ran the control down the transom to the a block near the bottom and across to a cam cleat at my feet. Sometimes though, they can just complicate things to those who like the KISS philosophy.

I am in a similar situation in terms of rigging (mid boom) and debating whether to get a traveller. In high or gusty winds a traveller would take some of the heel out of the boat before having to reef the main, but do I really want to trip over the track every time I move fore and aft? Not really.

switching to a traveler will give you much more control especially if you do not have a boom vang. Sailing down wind you can keep the boom lower and sailing upwind the end of the boom can be held closer to the center line of the hull and the sail flatter.
