Well did some searching, and did not realy find what I was looking for. I have a DSII and Im trying to find out what year it is. From searching I assume its a 73, but not positive. Now... the numbers are broken out in two diferent numbers. Its the second set that is the hull/sail number right?? That number is 6243 that puts it at 73 right???

The hull number format is pretty simple in the later boat (post '71 I think).
It is four letters, followed by a set of numbers.
By example my full number is XDYD68721073, if I have this right it breaks down in the following way.
XDY identifies O'Day as the manufacturer
D identifies it as a daysailer
6872 is the hull number
1073 indicates it was built in October of 1973.
If the four letters don't match mine you can look up the manufacturer under USCG HIN listings.
If you are confused by the hull number index on this site, that is a listing of known boats not all boats.

Mine did not have a number like that. there is a plate on the inside of the transom that that two sets of numbers. 3272 and 6243

Ahh,
That would be the class #/sail # system then. I don't know much about that. I think that indicates a pre '71 boat. Does it have a glassed in cockpit, or is the hull open on the inside (is the cockpit floor the in side of the hull skin)?

Ya, it has a glassed in cockpit. Looks like all the other DSII's I have seen before.

My DS2 is a 1973 hull# 26508,class# 5038.You can find the numbers on a metal plate on the inside of the transom. The hull# is the first set of numbers and is the total number of all types of hulls built by oday corp. when they made my hull. The class# is the second set of numbers, and is the total number of DS2 built when my boat was made, if your numbers are less then mine, your boat is older ,if greater then mine then your boat is newer. Well my numbers are 3272 and 6243 so Im not sure...

I've read about the numbering scheme from Roger's book and this forum but I can't decipher my Hull ID. The Hull ID stamped onto the transom is:

XDY10554M80H-D

Any ideas on what this translates to?
