Dear gents,
I am writing from Italy (so excuse me for my bad english); there are not so many DS in Italy, of course at least one... mine.
So I can not race with other DS, but there are some open regatta for dinghies (like laser, 470, 505 and so on); in order to have fairier racing between different classes and boat types there is a compensation system called Portsmouth Yardstick from RYA. Does the DS hava a Portsmouth Yardstick number? Or is there anything similar also in USA or you regatta just against DS

Thanks

Focacube

Yes it does and the basic number is 98.5 for the current year

Here is a link to the current table:
http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/tab ... es08cb.asp

The numbers don't seem to be the same between RYA's system and USSailing. I would pick a couple boats that are on both list to create a ratio that you can apply to the USSailing Portsmouth number to convert it to the RYA number to get a starting point.

Thank you; yes it seems that RYA and USSailing have different PN number. the first evident difference is the number of digit (3 for the RYA and 2 for the USSailing) and this is due to the multilpier factor (100 for USSailing and 1000 for RYA); other difference come out (if I have well understood) from the fact that these are race statistic result and probably these statistcs are different from Europe and USA. So it would be difficult to find out a method to convert USSailing to RYA factor. Anyhow it is a good start point; I wrote to RYA to know if they have any information about DS in Europe and I have to study better the rules
Thank you again

I know there are a few DS in Europe as I've heard from people trying to find out what type of boat it is. But that number must be really small.
