The forum will be undergoing extended maintenance and upgrade to a new version of the forum software over the next few weeks.
This may temporarily affect access to the forum and / or result in some visible differences.
Please let us know (by posting to the "Forum Info and How To Use the Forum" section) if you encounter any adverse changes in forum function, broken links and similar issues.

Hi - had a new to DSAssoc member ask about access to the forum (actually two folks) - was (is) there a problem for new members to get access? Do they need to take another step(s) to access the forum???? THANKS! Charlie - Fleet 128 - Paso Robles (and Morro Bay) CA

Send me their email and user name via PM and I can manually activate any pending forum registration (Note, forum and DSA website are independent - you can register the same or a different name, but the registrations aren't linked in any way)

Testing smilies. :D they seem to be broken

. Look also at be panel to the right when editing. They show up as text instead of as images.
If whatever prevents them is fixed existing posts should work again. For now they show the text equivalent.
Note emoji from the phone keyboard don't work at all but that's a limitation of the forum software.

Do OS emojis work?
Nope.

For OS emojis we'd need Unicode support in the database (and all other code). Would not be surprised to hear that this requires an upgrade rather than a simple setting. Also not sure what migrating from a non-Unicode DB to a Unicode one entails. We don't want symbols like copyright or whatever interpreted as UTF-8 when they aren't.
