So, I'd been hearing something clunking around back and forth when tacking. Stuck the camera down through the inspection port and got this pic: some PO had left a socket wrench in the bilge! There sure aren't any sockets missing from my toolbox ...

... now how am I gonna get *that* thing outta there? It's sitting just forward of the CB trunk. Maybe a magnet? It's obviously been in there awhile, and I've only heard it recently, so it must have been stuck in some nook or cranny under there all this time ...

- Used a magnet on the end of a telescoping tent pole ... ;-P

It's completely rusted/corroded and frozen/locked up. Should I keep it as a souvenir?

I'm thinking mounted on a wall, in a teak or mahogany frame.

Yeah, I'm sure the wifey would love that! She'd prolly rather see a big ol' bass on the wall ... ;-P

Dunno if the PO knew, but don't you think they'd have had to?!

It's got a 3/4" socket on it - is that the size used on the CB pivot bolt? Can't tell, cuz my CBPV is encased in some kind of goop that I can't get off of it ...

They may have been working on the CB bolt got frustrated said F'it, gooped the bolt ends up and never went back in for the wrench. I know I've had a few days where I felt that way.

Could be, or dropped it and it fell out of reach and they couldn't figure out how to get it back out. Or, I suppose it's even possible that it was left in at the factory?

I have some sort of goop on my centerboard bolt as well. It's one reason I haven't replaced the cables yet. I did inspect them last summer when the boat was careened and they were in good shape.

Good find on the wrench. Might be good framed and mounted in a work shop.

Do you think maybe O'Day gooped the CB bolts on all the DS2s at the factory? Anyone else have it on their boat?

Mine (Circa 1973 DSII) had some kind of sealant on the washers making them difficult to remove but the bolt and nut itself were not coated with any sealant.
