Steve:
I have also been considering a trolling motor for my DS. Today I happened by the Sears sports department and found a Salt Water trolling motor for about $250. The thrust was a decent 36 pounds. Deep cycle marine batteries run under $100 at the Sears Auto center. This seems like a more environment friendly alternative to gas engines, and less expensive.
Sears carries a variety of trolling motors starting at around $60 with 20 pound thrust, but I don't know how these would do in salt water.

Hey...
I was the jerk who came up with the Elec trolling motor Idea!!!(Pat on the back Jeffy). Yes they do make salt-water models. I am in fresh-water and only use a 27lb thrust model along with a small deep-cycle battery from Parts America. TOTAL COST $ !50) I might suggest that you buy something stronger tho...this works for me on an inland lake...
