Mystery sails

Postby Melbourne55 » Tue Sep 15, 2009 8:03 pm

My Spindrift came with several discrepencies and I am going to address them one at a time.

This is a good one.

She came with an extra set of sails that the prvious owner said was off an old Daysailer.

I have compared them with the originals.

The main is 32 inches shorter at the luff and 18 inches shorter at the foot/

The batten pockets go the entire chord of the main.

The foot is 18 inches shorter.

I thought OK storm rig and expected a smaller jib.

Not so

The jib is equal at the luff and 12 inches longer at the foot (Genoa?)

The fabric is identical for both.

The big mystery is There was a third jib made out of a cotton fabric roughly the original size but with large pockets at the foot and the luff.

Any comments????

It sounds like the jib is a self-tacking or club-footed jib.
