reef points on a mainsail

could i install my own grommets on a mainsail to establish reef points ?

If you have sailcloth to make the reinforcing patches, know how to apply them and what size, and have a sewing machine with sailthread that can do zig zag, then yes... otherwise anyone of those items not meeting standard could spell trouble for the longevity of the modification.
