As it is, to set the sheet into the cleat I have to pull it forwards, so I wouldn't be able to do it if I were singlehanding and not sitting right up by the cleats.
As far as I know, it is set up correctly. That's how mine were before I got new ones. Mounting it backwards in the track doesn't work at all--I've tried it.
The only advantage I can see to this design is that you can uncleat it in a hurry.
Lol I tried flipping mine around too, definitely did not work. I noticed I have angled flat spots on the CB housing in the center, I've seen others install cleats there for the gib. I think I'll go that route.
That's just what mine looks like and is a priority to change this year if possible ... a new cleat to put on the existing slider without drilling any new holes. Current system is SO awkward. Rudy Nickerkson at D&R Marine told me last fall that he is working to get a new product that will be more satisfactory no matter if you are sailing alone or with crew. Spoke to him again yesterday. Still in progress. -Cindy
