Topping lift

Postby Capt Dave » Tue May 05, 2009 10:44 pm

I am considering installing a topping lift on my DSII. Any suggestions on the best way to rig such a lift?

The 'best' setup in my opinion is to run a line from the back of the boom to a small turning block at the top of the mast down to a cleat at the base of the mast. This allows you to trim well forward and inboard.

On the other hand, the 'easiest' setup it to run a line from the top of the mast to a small block at the end of the boom and to a cleat on one side of the aft end of the boom. This is a shorter line, but requires the boom to be inboard for setting.

I had the latter on my DS II, but moved to the former for my larger 20' boat. In both cases, parachute shroud line 1/8" diameter was all that was required. Hope that helps.
