What size anchor?

Postby pjk170 » Wed Jun 03, 2009 2:34 pm

What size anchor should I get for my DSII? This is for anchoring if i wanted to take a break while sailing, not for mooring.

Thanks....

I prefer a Danforth style anchor of about 8 lbs with an attached chain of about 6 feet. To the chain I add 100 feet of 3/8 utility line. The effectiveness of an anchor is more about its design and the actual rigging you attach to it than the anchor weight itself. If you are not familiar “anchoring” I suggest you Google the subject. I've used pretty much that type anchor and rode as well (in sandy ground tending towards muddy) and it worked fine. The longest I've used it was for several hours, taking another boat to shore for lunch. When I came back, it had dug in so well that I had to work a bit to get it out.
