Related to Inspection Ports

I added an inspection port to the bow tank on my DS1.

It had a 1" hole near the bottom. I have not glassed this one over, but used a sandwhich of 1.5" rubber washers, 1" SS Feder washers held together by a round head screw and wing nut.

I think this will work, because the rubber is thick enough to prevent the fenders from slipping through the hole.

Has anyone else who has the 1" holes in place found a beter way of sealing them, short of glassing them over?

Normally there would be a 1 inch rubber plug with a toggle that you flip to expand the rubber in the hole. That is what I have in each of the drain holes on my seats as well as the bow tank. Your solution works too but seems like a little extra work if you want to drain the bow tank. Brad

I would hesitate actually glassing over the hole. Your solution or a plug would allow you to use the hole to drain the tank if necessary. Brad

I hadn't considered these plugs, although I use one of them in the transom drain. They are standard parts that all marine stores in the area carry, so I'm not going to order them from anywhere. They would provide better seal than the corks that cam with the boat, and be more convenient than my solution, except that they have that large handle...

I have the holes in the bow and both seats, and am planning on just leaving them open. There's no foam in any of them, and I'm using floatation bags, so I don't really care if water moves inand out- probably best if it can, actually.
